Optimal Diversity Allocation for Multi-User Systems Operating over Jammed Multipath Fading Channels

A class of multicarrier systems was deened in 1] to study the eeect of the method of bandwidth allocation on coherent multiuser system performance over fading channels. In this paper, we extend our previous work to a military environment, where the system experiences some type of hostile jamming in addition to additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Using a novel closed form result for the error probability, we are able to determine the optimal method of diversity allocation under partial-band interference and worst case partial-band jamming. Next, we consider optimization for a previously unconsidered (and perhaps more important) criteria-the soft-decision Bhat-tacharyya parameter. The optimization under this criteria indicates exclusive allocation systems are uniformly optimal when conventional reception is performed; however, if a simple form of multiuser reception is allowed for the shared allocation systems, the maximum shared allocation systems are optimal.
